A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin or excess fat from the lower and/or upper eye. The aim of the surgery is to improve hooded or sagging eye lids and/or improve the appearance of bags under the eyes.
Carried out by Dr Paul Effiong, specialist Ophthalmologist and cosmetic surgeon for over 20 years, working both within the private sector and NHS, registered with the GMC.
Yes, the blepharoplasty surgery is carried out under a local anaesthetic. Sedation is available if required.
Blepharoplasty surgery can take up 1 hour for upper or lower and 2 hours for both upper and lower.
Healing can take between 4 and 6 weeks.
There will be slight to moderate bruising and swelling to the area which will improve as the tissue heals.
We advise avoiding strenuous activity and swimming for a few days post treatment and sleeping with your head propped upright on a pillow for a few days post treatment to help with any swelling.
A follow up appointment will be made to assess healing and results.
Dr Paul will be available for any queries or concerns post treatment.
