Can you melt away that stubborn fat?
With the wonders of modern medicine and advances in technology, it’s no wonder we can now ‘melt away’ those stubborn areas of fat, trimming and sculpting to create the silhouette of choice.
After lockdown 1.0 we have seen a rise in popularity of fat dissolving injections. Hailed as the ‘non surgical alternative to lipo suction’ with more and more before and after images flooding our Instagram and facebook feeds. So, what is this treatment and what does it actually do?
Firstly, what is stubborn fat and why can’t we shift it easily with diet and exercise?
Stubborn fat is subcutaneous fat that is physiologically harder to lose than visceral fat. It is more common for women to have stubborn fat stores than men and in certain areas of the body such as hips, buttocks and around the stomach area. This is due to the fact women’s bodies were designed to carry children and a bit of extra fat in these areas was needed for this. (yes ladies, we weren’t designed to be a 90’s Kate Moss).
How do fat dissolving injections work?
Once injected into the localised fatty area’s, the fat dissolving solution also known as “motolese solution” breaks down the fat cells. The body is then able to process these broken down cells through the lymphatic system and is excreted through the kidneys. The result is less volume in the treated area.
How long does the process last?
The initial procedure can take anything from 30min upwards dependent on the size of area to be treated. At least two sessions is recommended for optimal results.
Are the results permanent?
With any weight loss or fat reducing procedure, lifestyle and diet is always a factor for how long results will last. For example. if you were to go the gym religiously 4 times a week for 6 months then stop, would you maintain the same result?
How long until I can see results?
The effects of fat dissolving injections can be swelling in the first week and so actual result can be seen into the second week of the treatment once the swelling has subsided.
What areas can be treated?
Areas such as underarms, bum, legs, knees, stomach and back. Popular areas in recent months seem to be double chin and the jawline to create defined facial contours.
Are there any risks to fat dissolving injections?
Common side effects can be slight bruising and swelling, this should subside within a few days to a week. Rare and uncommon risks are possible infection of the injection site.
We spoke to our medical professional and this is what he had to say about fat dissolving injections.
Fat dissolving injections are not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, nor can they be used as a weight loss solution. They are a successful body contouring treatment, used to remove localised fat cells that are resistant to diet and exercise. There are a few different solutions that can be used so I would suggest a thorough consultation to determine what would best suit you.
With 1 week left of lockdown 2.0 and already a rise in treatments, especially for the jaw and chin area, is it a treatment you would consider?
It is advised that any medical aesthetic procedure be carried out by a trained medical professional. Any patient considering such treatment undergo a full consultation prior to treatment to ensure suitability.
